It was finally good news for the entire shipping companies when EverGreen was finally free to move outside out of the Suez Canal. According to reports, the massive Ever Green ship was finally brought back to the right position on Monday, March 29, 2021.
Even though EverGreen is now moving smoothly through the open Ocean, with the rest of the ships trailing as normal, yet it has caused a lot of problems for the upcoming months.
The EverGreen ship was stuck in the Suez Canal for 6 days and due to that, none of the ships using the same route were stuck. They had two options which were that they would either wait for EverGreen to be put in the right direction or take a different route. Even the second shortest route would have added another 2 weeks to their allocated journey.
Although things the Suez Canal are now back to normal, yet this 6-day disruption is going to have impacts that would last for several months.
The Supply Chain Managements’ executive vice president at the strategy and alliances, Douglas Kent has talked about the impact of the recent incident that took place at the Suez Canal.
Kent stated that right now we are celebrating that the ship finally got released and the Suez Canal is no longer blocked, but the impact of this 6-day incident will be felt for months to come.
This is just the beginning of problems that almost 10% of the world’s population is going to experience for several months.
As a result of this, the ports will be occupied with backlog shipping and several other problems will emerge at the docks. This will further impact the economic situation of many countries that are already struggling just like other countries due to the pandemic.
