The Bitcoin community hates Craig Wright who proclaimed himself the creator of Bitcoin and managed to create a massive storm of disinformation in mass media. Traditional media outlets were quick to pick up his story and propagate it among the community of crypto enthusiasts.
In fact, proving one’s identity as Satoshi Nakamoto should be quite easy. We have private keys and a wide range of other methods of identifying the creator. However, Craig Wright did not use any of the technical tricks to back his claim of being the founder of the biggest crypto. Instead, he went on a barrage of appearances on various podcasts and interviews creating even more chaos.
A Twitter user Hodlonaut decided to put out a fight and published a series of tweets accusing CW of misconduct, lies, manipulation, and deception, and also called him a “mentally ill” individual. The self-proclaimed Nakamoto turns out, to have very thin skin and filed a lawsuit against the user who decided to not back down.
The Bitcoin Satoshi Vision organization decided to put a bounty on the head of Hodlonaut and offered $5000 in BSV to anyone who can verify his identity. The whole community decided to stand behind Hodlonaut and the bounty was never claimed. On the other hand, we have a strong desire of many BTC holders to put fraudsters in their place.
The community organized a special fund and collectively donated 52.6 BTC to the cause. These funds will be used in case Hodlonaut will go to court and start a legal battle against Craig Wright. The massive sum in BTC was comprised of multiple donations, but one especially sticks out. An anonymous donor infused the fund with 47 BTC.
This whole story sounds like a very strange series of events. The eagerness of traditional media to cover the story is understandable. It is a magnificent narrative with many twists and turns as well as dramatic exchanges of accusations. We will see how it all unravels, but the mood of the community is very apparent. It seems that many BTC enthusiasts are done with CW and his outlandish claims.
