It was just a week back when Microsoft had made an announcement that had spread like wild-fire among the entire Microsoft community. Microsoft had revealed that hackers were trying to gain access and take control of the emailing service of the platform. The tech giant had revealed that the hackers that were making this attempt belonged to China.
Microsoft has announced that the hackers made the attempt of gaining access to the email accounts in its Exchange Service email software through the vulnerabilities.
In order to fight against and put a stop to the hack attempts, Microsoft has released security patches.
The cyber-security firms have revealed that the recent hack attempt on Microsoft is one of the top-level hack attempts that have been recorded attempts for the year 2021.
The firm has announced that the exchange currently exists as one of the top utilities around the world. There are now speculations that the companies will now be spending more on security protocols and measurements.
As the world moves towards advanced technologies, the number of hack attempts against large companies has become a common dilemma. Therefore, major companies from all over the world are trying their best to keep their security systems up-to-date and top-notch.
All the steps and preventive measures being taken by the companies are to ensure they do not end up becoming a target for hackers. In order to ensure the safety of emails, the majority of companies from all over the world are now getting rid of their own emailing servers. They are now resorting to the emailing services/facilities provided through the Cloud solutions.
Following the release of then-new security patches, the IT departments of several companies have already started applying them. This is to ensure that the systems and the servers are kept safe from any outside threats and hack attempts.
Unfortunately, the systems at present are not advanced enough to apply the new patches instantly. Therefore, during the application of the patches, the entire networks of companies become vulnerable.
One of the internet security companies known as Netcraft recently ran an analysis on companies currently using unpatched versions of Outlook Web Access Software. The results that Netcraft shared from the analysis it ran throughout the last week were shocking.
The internet security company revealed that at present, more than 99,000 servers are using the Outlook Web Access software that is unmatched. This means that these servers are currently vulnerable to outside hack attempts and if they do not update, things can get ugly for them.
Right after the news of the email hack attempts on Microsoft, the company’s shares have also taken a hit. Since March 1, 2021, the share prices of Microsoft have dropped by 1.3%.
