As per the latest reports, Disney is getting sued by one of the most prominent and popular female celebrities from Marvel. The reports confirm that Scarlett Johansson is the celebrity that has made the decision of suing Disney.
So far, it has been confirmed that the lawsuit application has been submitted at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The reports in regards to Scarlett Johansson’s legal action against Disney emerged when the lawsuit application was submitted at the LA Court on Thursday, July 27, 2021.
In the lawsuit, the actress has alleged Disney that has breached the contract that was signed with her. She alleged that it was in the agreement that Disney was not going to release the movie through Disney+, an online streaming service of Disney.
However, Disney went ahead and released the movie through Disney+, so the online subscribers of the application could watch the movie. As per her, Disney had agreed in the agreement that it was not going to launch the move through Disney+.
As per her attorney, Disney has gone ahead and released the movie through Disney+. Therefore, it is in breach of the contract. The lawsuit has been filed by Scarlett Johansson for her most recent sci-fi, hero, and action movie “Black Widow” for Marvel Studios.
The movie was highly anticipated as it was going to revolve around the history and story of Scarlett Johansson’s character as the Black Widow. Prior to being in her own action movie, the Black Widow character had starred in many popular Marvel Movies such as the Iron Man and The Avengers series.
On the other hand, the movie was also released at the same time in the theaters, which as per the actress’s lawyer, is a breach of the agreement between the star and Disney.
Scarlett Johansson claimed that as part of the agreement between her and Disney, she was supposed to be paid in a percentage from the movie’s gross amount. However, as Disney released the movie through Disney+, it landed a huge blow to the plaintiff’s expectations of generating high hauls from the movie’s revenue.
In the suit, Scarlett Johansson has claimed that it was agreed between both parties that in order to protect her financial interest, the movie would only have a theatrical release.
However, Disney went ahead and launched it through the online streaming service, killing the actress’s chances of gaining huge returns from the launch.
In the past, Disney has had several issues and feuds with different celebrities that have worked with the company. However, things never came to a point where a celebrity had to file a lawsuit against the giant. After the filing of the lawsuit at the LA Superior Court, the Disney stock prices have taken a 1.31% drop. At the time of writing, the share price of Disney is $176.02 after a $2.33 drop-in price in the last 24-hours.
