According to the latest reports, Apple is currently under a lot of pressure from the court over the Epic Games trial. The reports have revealed that Tim Cook, the chief executive at Apple had to face a lot of fire from the judge during the hearing.
The name of the Judge is Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who was determined to carry out intense questioning with Tim Cook. The people present during the trial informed the local media sources that Tim Cook was bombarded by the judge with fierce questionings.
The judge kept asking Cook about the recent developments and accusations imposed by several other companies in terms of its application store. The Judge demanded Tim Cook for providing clarity on the matter and explain how Apple’s App Store works. The judge demanded Tim Cook to explain and provide information surrounding the business model it currently has for the developers.
According to the attendants, the judge started interrogating Tim Cook after his Epic Games versus Apple trial testimony.
The judge stated that she wanted to get clarity and information from Tim Cook before she went ahead and decided on the trial. She wanted to get enough information that would help her decide whether the lawsuit filed by Epic Games is strong enough or not.
Epic Games had recently filed a lawsuit against the tech giant, Apple, over its misconduct over the developers’ ability to publish their applications. Epic Games has alleged Apple for imposing harsh conditions over the developers if they wish to launch their application through the App Store.
The first concern is surrounding the 30% fee that a developer needs to pay to the Apple App Store for launching their application through the platform. Secondly, if the developers want to launch their application through App Store, then they cannot sell their application through any other platforms.
Rogers questioned Tim Cook as to why they charged so many charges to the developers for launching their applications. Then Rogers asked Cook what stopped their platform from deducting lower fees from the developers and charging too much.
Even in the past, many developers have raised the same concerns over Apple’s App Store’s harsh conditions. The first concern is the high fees per application download, and the other one is the one platform restriction. The judge demanded to know why the customers were unable to offer the applications through other platforms such as Android.
During the statement, Rogers stated that the consumers must always have a choice of choosing their platforms between Android devices and iPhone devices.
Rogers stated that the developers must always have the freedom of offering their users and public the option to go for cheaper platforms instead of Apple.
