As per the latest reports, seven Chinese supercomputing companies have been targeted by the United States Commerce Department. It has been revealed that the United States Commerce Department has added these companies to the economic blacklist of the United States.
The sources have revealed that the Commerce Department has taken this action as it cites these supercomputing companies from China to be a threat to the country’s security.
The announcement around the blacklisting of the seven companies was made by the U.S. Commerce Department on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
The United States Commerce Department has also released the names of the companies that it has blacklisted. The names of the supercomputing companies now blacklisted include National Supercomputing Center Zhengzhou, National Supercomputing Center Wuxi.
The third company is the National Supercomputing Center Shenzhen, National Supercomputing Center Jinan, Sunway Microelectronics, Shanghai High-Performance Integrated Circuit Design Center, and Tianjin Phytium Information Technology.
The Commerce Department has claimed that the companies have been blacklisted for building supercomputers. These supercomputers are reportedly being used by the military of China. The department stated that these supercomputers are being utilized by the Chinese Military with the aim to destabilize the U.S. Military.
Their efforts include destabilizing the U.S. Military and stop them from making progress in the military modernization sector. On top of that, the Chinese Military is also using the supercomputers built by the companies to develop and operate programs for weapons of mass destruction.
For a very long time, the officials from the United States have pointed out these supercomputing companies for their involvement with the establishment in China.
The officials have also highlighted major concerns that the companies have been working on the instructions of the People’s Republic of China. The companies are loyal to the People’s Liberation Army and have been gathering sensitive information from America.
Despite several allegations, the Chinese Communist Party has always denied such claims. On several occasions, the Communist Party has clarified that it has nothing to with industrial espionage nor it is interested in resorting to such tactics.
Gina Raimondo, who is the U.S. Secretary of Commerce also made a statement regarding the supercomputing capabilities. Raimondo stated that for the development of any country, supercomputing has the tendency to play a very vital role.
Almost every country needs supercomputing technology in order to have the most advanced security systems. The countries also need to introduce advancements when it comes to modern weapons to protect their sovereignty.
However, China is trying to sabotage the efforts made by the United States Military and other forces by using supercomputing companies and have them provide them with critical information.
This way, China is trying to gain leverage over American weapon and security technology. But the United States will do whatever is necessary in order to prevent China’s Military from doing that.
