It is not old news that Elon Musk had announced that they were going to launch their SpaceX Internet “Starlink” for everyone. Since the announcement, SpaceX is constantly working to expand the project and make it a worldwide adoption similar to the Worldwide Web internet.
Over the years, SpaceX has sent several missions outside earth for the deployments of the satellites responsible for the internet. Since the launch, the satellite internet services from Starlink are constantly on the rise and are being adopted on a large scale.
However, the CEO of SpaceX/Starlink, Elon Musk has made yet another promising announcement for the Starlink internet users. Musk has announced that the speed of internet provided by the Starlink satellite internet service will be doubled towards the end of the running year.
Musk has revealed that the reason behind this announcement is because their satellite network outside earth is constantly building up. Soon they will have enough satellites in space to support faster internet for consumers all over the world.
Further details shared by Elon Musk suggest that the speed of the internet would be doubled to 300Mb/s. Apart from the internet speed, the latency will also decrease all the way down to 20ms towards the end of the year.
This information was shared by Elon Musk through Twitter in response to a Tweet that was made by the user. The Twitter user recently had Starlink internet installed and was showing off his internet speed test through a picture. That is when Elon Musk jumped in and informed that the internet speed would double and latency would drop significantly.
For those who are not fully aware of latency, it is the amount of delay that the users experience when using the internet through the provider. This shows how much time it takes for a signal to be sent over and received from the destination.
This is the reason why the internet speed and latency are considered to be the key measurements for the performance of the internet provided by a service provider.
Further to the internet and latency tweet, Elon Musk also added that Starlink is extending its internet service to most of the parts of the world. However, their aim is to fully cover the global network by the end of the year 2022.
He stated that similar to other satellite broadband services, Starlink intends to target consumers that are either low population density areas or medium population density areas.
On the other hand, cellular internet services will always have the upper hand in urban areas that are dense.
SpaceX has estimated that it would take around $10 billion in order to fully launch Starlink all over the world. However, once the internet has been spread, it would be able to generate $30 billion worth of revenue.
